MERRILLVILLE -- An eyesore off U.S. 30 has been taken down, and its property space is being sold for nearly a million dollars.
Merrillville Community Development Director Howard Fink confirmed a demolition permit was put into place to destroy an abandoned retail building at 82nd Avenue and Louisiana Street.
The building came down on Monday.
The site most recently hosted a Lennertz Fireplace and Patio Unlimited store.
Now the property, which touts high visibility with a 161 feet of frontage, 113 parking spaces, and close proximity to Westfield Southlake Mall, is selling for $895,000, according to the property's broker, David Lasser from Commercial In-Sites LLC.
"For a national restaurant chain and national retailers, that's a market price," Lesser said.
Lesser said the original building structure was in poor condition and lacked attractive features like big windows.
The $895,000 price is strictly for the land, Lasser said.
